Mottainai: Old Clothes, New Life | Uniqlo SG x DesignSingapore Design Challenge

GINLEE x UNIQLO

Presenting our entry for Uniqlo SG x DesignSingapore Design Challenge: Re_/\/\/\ake
With sustainability in mind, we sought to redesign and repurpose - rather than dematerialising the garment - in order to minimise waste, while also giving it a new life.
We loved the challenge of using a rather manly polo shirt (in pink!) to soften the overall look. We applied our Gate pleat – which has a concave and convex pattern – in such a manner so as to “resize” this rather large blocky top. Without removing any fabric from the width of the garment, we were able to visually resize the garment.
The athletic raglan-sleeve knit tee sparked our imagination to repurpose it into a bag. In order for the original neckline to be shown, we created a contrast panel from the pink polo top. To finish off, we applied our signature Ivy pleats™️ onto the bag opening, giving it an interesting dimension.

To finish off the look entirely, we decided to add this pair of smart trouser as the coordinate. We gave it a slight update by running a top stitch along the front to direct the fold better. With fabric belts from our own stash of fabrics, we created adjustable tie straps along the ankles to taper off the silhouette.

And here's the final look:
